China – Europe by the Middle Corridor
We organise rail freight from China to Europe along the Middle Corridor — through Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea and the Caucasus, on a route that does not cross Russia — and take part in developing a new link on this route: Ili River Port in Kazakhstan.
The route
The Middle Corridor, officially the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, links China and Europe without crossing Russia.
- China
- Kazakhstan
- Caspian Sea
- Azerbaijan · Georgia
- Turkey
- Europe
- By rail through Kazakhstan to the Caspian ports.
- Across the Caspian Sea to Azerbaijan, then by rail through Georgia.
- On through Turkey or across the Black Sea to Europe, and by rail or road to the Baltic States.
Ili River Port
Linkobalt is the official partner and representative of Ili River Port for the Asia–Europe direction and takes part in developing the port and this route.
The port is a project under development. The points below describe what is planned.
- Location: the Kapshagai Reservoir near Konaev, Almaty Region, Kazakhstan; a 100-hectare site.
- River route: the Ili River between Yining in China’s Xinjiang region and Konaev, about 450 km of navigable river.
- Developer: a joint venture of Ili River Port LLP (Kazakhstan) and China International Water & Electric Corp.
- Planned: terminals, storage, sorting and equipment maintenance; initial capacity of 1 million tonnes a year.
- Aim: a new cargo link between China and Kazakhstan towards the Middle Corridor.
